3 Ways to practise selfcare & a Mother’s Day edit

This Mother’s Day we’re showing the mums, and amazing women in our lives, bundles of love. While the celebrations may be happening virtually, we’re excited to shout about the incredible women we know and spoil them in the best way we can: with selfcare. 

We believe everyone should take some time out of their busy lives to practise selfcare and, while that usually means different things for different people, we know your time is precious. Below we’ve compiled the top ways to practise selfcare with a busy schedule.  

While acts of selfcare can be really big (like saying no to big projects and people that don’t bring you joy), they can also be small habits that you adopt each day to make changes that will add up over time. Our self-care recommendations are three easy ways to take some time out of your busy schedule to celebrate you – without needing to totally overhaul your daily routine.  

ONE: Create a cosy space and be mindful 

Whether it’s your dressing table where you spend each morning getting ready or the space around your bathroom sink, having a cosy area to practice mindfulness is crucial. We know not everyone has time to schedule in daily meditation but even practising mindfulness while applying your makeup at the start of the day can be a great way to re-centre on yourself. Try this: prep a cosy space where you get ready in the morning. Then, while doing your makeup, take the time to enjoy the moment, paying attention to every step of your routine.  

TWO: Unplug from the 24/7 information cycle

It can be difficult to feel well-rested and prepared for the day when you spend countless hours scrolling your phone, reading the news and squinting at a computer screen. Take some time each day to unplug from technology and instead use that time to focus on something that makes you feel good. Try this: turn off your work laptop at the end of the day, and instead of hunkering down for a half hour of social media scrolling, instead retreat to the bathroom (maybe your previously mentioned cosy space), turn on a relaxing playlist and remove your makeup, tuning out your phone and technology 

THREE: Build a self-care kit

Honestly, just building anything is an act of selfcare. Whether you want to get creative by compiling a box of all your favourite art tools, creating a basket of your most indulgent skincare or a bedside drawer of easy reads, having a kit of selfcare tools means you’ll have me-time at your fingertips. Try this: stock your makeup bag with your favourite products so in those rushed morning hours you can really enjoy taking a moment to use your favourite makeup for an indulgent (but quick!) morning beauty routine.
