5 Hacks to master liquid eyeliner

black magic: cocoa edit liquid eyeliner

Right now we’re focusing on our eye makeup more than ever before due to wearing face coverings in most public spaces. The good news is if there was ever a time to try something new or hone a fresh skill, it is now.

We’d like to suggest re-familiarising yourself with liquid eyeliner. A key step in most eye makeup routines, liquid eyeliner helps to define the eyes and gives the appearance of fuller lashes. If you love the idea of liquid eyeliner but feel black may appear too harsh for your every-day look, try our Black Magic: Cocoa Edit Liquid Eyeliner. A warm brown eyeliner, the calligraphy-inspired nib is easy to use allowing you to determine the intensity of your look. The good news? Our iconic eyeliner range has something for everyone.

Whether you’re a total liquid eyeliner rookie or have gotten a bit rusty in the past year, these tips are sure to set you on track for winged, liquid eyeliner perfection.

Make sure your eye lid is taut

We already know the eye area is one of the most sensitive on your body, so while it’s important to hold skin taut, ensure you’re doing so gently. Softly hold the outer-corner of your eye lid with fingertips for complete control of application. It’s much easier to draw liner on a larger, smooth surface than over a smaller area.

Use the dot-to-dot method

For true liquid eyeliner beginners, the dot-to-dot method will be especially helpful. Using your liquid eyeliner nib, dot along your lash line then simply connect the dots by drawing a line in between. This allows you to focus on creating a smaller line while taking the pressure off keeping a longer stretch of liner completely straight.

Use a flat surface

Often we’re doing our makeup while hunched in front of the bathroom mirror, quickly passing through our routine without much thought (or balance!). This simple tip is a liquid liner no brainer: get ready on a flat surface. Prop your elbow on a table or desk and tilt your head back slightly for a full view of your lash line, then get to tracing. When you remove the added factor of balance, you’ll have no trouble tracing a straighter line than usual.

Try the outside-in technique

Often recommended by professional makeup artists, this tip is typically paired with the suggestion to always start with your more challenging eye. Simply use the nib of your eyeliner to draw the tip of your wing (or the outer-most point of your eyeliner), then trace the line toward the inner-corner of the eye, narrowing as you go.

Keep eye makeup remover close by

A true no brainer for anyone reacquainting themselves with liquid eyeliner, eye makeup remover is a stand-by essential. As with anything, practice makes perfect – and in the meantime eye makeup remover is a quick fix for liquid liner disasters. If you’re ever left with eyeliner that can’t be fixed.
